The Hauppauge Rebels took the field on Saturday in Sayville, ready to defend their 2024 Long Island Cup title in a highly anticipated first-round matchup against the Baymen.
Coming off a 1-0 start to the season, the Rebels wasted no time asserting their dominance.
Just five minutes into the game, Jesus Rodriguez ignited the Rebels' offense with a stunning missile of a shot into the right corner of the net, courtesy of a well-placed midfield pass from Daniel Rzypecki. The early goal set the tone for the Rebels' relentless attack.
The pressure on the Baymen continued, as Eamon White drilled a powerful header off a corner from Liam Youngworth just five minutes later, putting the Rebels in a commanding position. Goalkeeper Michael Salzillo preserved the lead with a crucial save on a Baymen free kick 15 minutes into the match.
With just 30 seconds left in the first half, defender Dylan "Jojo" Narcisse pushed forward and unleashed a brilliant strike from outside the box, extending the Rebels' lead to 2-0 at halftime.
Second-Half Onslaught
The Rebels refused to let up after the break. Benjamin Scanlan opened the second half with a pinpoint pass into the box for Rehan Ali, whose powerful shot was barely kept out by the Baymen goalkeeper. It was a sign of things to come, as Hauppauge continued to bombard the Baymen’s defense with a flurry of attacks.
Rehan Ali received a yellow card for an aggressive sliding tackle in an attempt to add another goal to the Rebels’ tally. Griffin Anspach came close to scoring, sending a strike just wide off an unselfish pass from Rodriguez. Further chances came from Emir Jusuf and Liam Lukasik, both of whom narrowly missed the back of the net.
Emmanuel Amado was a constant threat on the right wing, delivering precision crosses that pulled the Baymen defense out of shape and created numerous goal-scoring opportunities. Later in the half, a long ball from Eamon White connected beautifully with a soft header from Matt Cain, opening space for Liam Lukasik to charge down the wing and fire a shot that was skillfully saved by the Baymen keeper.
After relentless pressure, Jesus Rodriguez struck again, sealing the Rebels’ victory with a clinical left-footed shot to make it 3-0. Moments later, Dylan Narcisse nearly added to the tally with a 30-yard rocket that rattled the crossbar, followed by another powerful strike from Rodriguez that also found the bar.
In the final moments, Liam Youngworth delivered a beautiful left-footed cross that narrowly missed the outstretched foot of Aiden Rose, which would have further padded the lead.
Defensive Brilliance Secures the Shutout
While the offense kept the Baymen on their heels, the true foundation of the Rebels' victory was their rock-solid defense. Eamon White, Dylan Narcisse, Liam Lukasik, Zach Romano, and Dan Rzypecki formed an impenetrable backline that stifled the Baymen's attack. Their disciplined play, combined with outstanding goalkeeping from Michael Salzillo, ensured a well-earned shutout.
With this dominant 3-0 win, the Rebels advance to the next round of the LI Cup, proving once again why they are the reigning champions. Their combination of relentless attack and defensive composure makes them a formidable force in their quest to defend the title.
